Technology Bundle
Technology Bundle
The technology bundle consists of a companion device (Dell touchscreen Chromebook), technology support and repairs, filtering, management, secure Wi-Fi access, and software (Google Apps for Education and Microsoft 365). The focus committee reviewed Apple, Windows, and Chrome devices based on the instructional needs of our school. The committee was unanimous in selecting the Chromebook as the device that meets our identified criteria of instructional tools, filtering, access, warranty, and value. There are many features that the technology bundle provides that are not provided through a personal purchase of a device, including a 3 year warranty, technical support, and a consistent instructional platform.
Mountain Brook Schools continues to partner with the Mountain Brook Schools Foundation and our families to make this plan a reality. The technology bundle enables students to keep their device for their entire time at Mountain Brook Elementary School. Because of this partnership, there will only be a small technology fee.
Every student will be assigned their individual devices the first week of school. The faculty will work with students to ensure that they are trained on usage of the device, access to resources, safety, support, and responsibilities. Opportunities will also be provided for parents to learn more about the device and its usage in our classrooms.
We are very excited about the technology bundle and the resources that it will provide our students and faculty. For more information, please visit the additional links on the website.
Technical Problems or Unintentional Damage
The Dell Chromebooks purchased by Mountain Brook Schools are covered by a basic Dell warranty. The warranty covers the machine for hardware failures, such as:
- Will not charge or will not turn on
- Internal component failure
- Keyboard or touchpad not working
The following are examples of incidents not covered by the Dell warranty, for which the burden of repair and/or replacement cost will fall on the parent.
- Damage due to fire, natural disasters or other
- Intentional damage, such as abuse or vandalism
- Loss or theft of the Chromebook
- Repeated or excessive incidents of damage
In the event that the Chromebook develops a technical problem or is damaged, the issue must be reported to the local school technology coordinator. The technology coordinator will handle getting the machine serviced and back into operation. For theft of a Chromebook, a police report will be filed.
Excessive or Repeated Damage or Loss
In the event of repeated or excessive damage, the technology department will determine if the machine can be repaired for a reasonable cost. The cost of the repair will be communicated to, and the responsibility of, the parent. In the event the machine is lost, stolen or damaged beyond reasonable repair, the fee to reimburse MBS will be as follows:
REIMBURSEMENT FEES
$320 - 345 Year One
$240 - 300 Year Two
$124 - 207 Year Three
Malfunction
If there is no obvious purposeful or neglectful harm to the charger, then the chargers are under warranty. Students should report the issue to their homeroom teacher who will place an IT Ticket on their behalf. Students will then receive a replacement charger while their charger is sent off for repair or replacement.
Neglect, Damage, or Loss
If there is obvious harm or loss then parents are responsible for purchasing a replacement charger. The replacement must be a Dell 65W USB-C AC Adapter which can be purchased from the Dell website.
There are a number of technology accessories provided to Mountain Brook Elementary to expand the protection and functionality of the Chromebooks. Some of these are provided through the partnership between Mountain Brook Schools and the Mountain Brook Schools Foundation. However, many of these are provided as a part of the MBE Grade Level Registration Fees. If these items receive damage, it is the responsibility of the parent to purchase a replacement.
Chromebook Cases
All kindergarten and fourth grade students receive a new case. That case promotes with them through the grade levels. This case should be on their device at all times as it impacts the validity of the warranty. If a case is faulty when received, a replacement case will be provided at no extra fee. If a case is damaged or lost, parents must purchase a replacement.
Headphones
Grades K-6 receive a new pair of headphones yearly. If headphones are faulty when received, replacement headphones will be provided at no extra fee. If headphones are damaged or lost, parents must purchase a replacement.
